What is Full Screen(custom order)?

Q

What is Full Screen(custom order)?

A

SCREENPRO Full-Screen Projection Surface

For standard projection screens, specifications usually include the viewing area, upper black drop, side borders, bottom border, and other masking areas.

With SCREENPRO Full-Screen customization, the original border structure is still retained, but the black masking areas are made in the same color as the projection fabric. The effective viewing area remains the specified aspect ratio and screen size, while the upper black drop, left and right borders, and lower border become matte white projection fabric instead of black masking.

Full-Screen Customization FAQ

Is the border still here?

Yes. Full-Screen means there is no black border visually, but the border fabric still exists. It is made in the same color as the viewing area and keeps the same standard extended structure.

Can I customize the screen without left and right black borders only?

Yes. SCREENPRO can customize the screen without left and right black borders while keeping other areas according to your project requirements.

Can I remove the upper black drop if my ceiling height is limited?

Yes. If the installation space has limited ceiling height, the upper black drop can be reduced or removed based on the required screen structure.

Effective Viewing Area vs. Masking Area

The effective viewing area is the actual projection area with the designated aspect ratio and screen size. Masking areas are usually used to frame the image, absorb overspill light, and improve visual focus.

What Is a Black Border?

The black border around a projection screen is commonly called a screen masking border. It helps define the image area, reduce light spill, and create a more focused viewing experience.

Common Types of Black Borders

  • Top Black Drop: Used for ceiling-mounted screens to lower the image to a comfortable viewing height.
  • Surround Black Border: Includes top, bottom, left, and right borders to define the image area.
  • Adjustable Masking: Used in professional cinema systems to match different aspect ratios such as 16:9 or 21:9.

Why Black Borders Matter

  • Improved apparent contrast: Black borders absorb overspill light and make the image look more stable.
  • Clear visual framing: The border helps the eye focus on the center of the image.
  • Installation tolerance: Slight projector misalignment can be hidden by the border.
  • Better flatness support: On tab-tensioned screens, the side border can also support the tensioning structure.
  • Cinematic experience: Similar to cinema masking, black borders help create a more immersive image.
