Chinese New Year was the most significant holiday period in China in 2018. Chinese New Year's Eve fell on February 15, followed by Chinese New Year on February 16.
The national holiday period continued through February 21. As is common with China's holiday arrangements, selected weekend dates were designated as working days to compensate for the extended holiday period.
New Year's Day: January 1, 2018.
Chinese New Year: February 15–21, including Chinese New Year's Eve and the Spring Festival holiday period.
Ching Ming Festival: April 5–6. Also widely known as Qingming Festival or Tomb Sweeping Day.
Labour Day: May 1, with April 30 used as an additional bridge holiday.
Dragon Boat Festival: June 18.
Mid-Autumn Festival: September 24–25 according to the reference calendar.
National Day: October 1–5 in the holiday calendar shown above, with adjusted working weekend arrangements.
Public holidays in China may affect factories, domestic transportation, freight forwarding, warehousing and communication with suppliers.
The largest impact normally occurs around Chinese New Year and the National Day holiday, when many businesses close for several consecutive days.
Companies sourcing projection screens or other manufactured products from China should therefore allow additional time when production or shipment dates fall close to these holiday periods.
China's public holiday arrangements often combine official holidays with adjusted weekend working days. As a result, some Saturdays or Sundays may become normal working days.
International Women's Day on March 8 was not a full national public holiday. Women could be entitled to a half-day holiday.
Chung Yeung Festival on October 17 was also listed as an observance rather than a national public holiday.
