ACOUSTICALLY TRANSPARENT PROJECTION

Woven Acoustically Transparent Projection Screen

A woven acoustically transparent projection screen is designed for installations where speakers are positioned behind the projection surface, allowing the image and sound system to share the same visual plane.

Unlike a conventional solid projection surface, the woven structure contains extremely small openings between the fibers that allow sound to pass through the material while maintaining a continuous surface for projected images.

WOVEN STRUCTURE

Why Use a Woven Projection Surface?

In a dedicated theater or professional screening environment, placing the center, left and right speakers behind the screen can create a more natural relationship between the picture and the sound. Dialogue appears to originate from the image rather than from speakers positioned above, below or beside the screen.

A woven acoustically transparent material makes this type of installation possible while avoiding the visibly large perforations associated with some traditional perforated projection surfaces.

FRONT & BACK

Understanding the Screen Construction

The front side provides the projection surface seen by the audience, while the rear side reveals the supporting and tensioning structure used to keep the material evenly stretched across a large frame.

Proper and consistent tension is particularly important for large-format acoustically transparent screens, helping maintain a flat projection surface across the viewing area.

OPTIONAL BLACK BACKING

Why Add a Black Acoustic Backing?

Because acoustically transparent material allows sound to pass through the projection surface, light from behind the screen may also become visible depending on the installation environment.

An optional black acoustically transparent backing can be installed behind the projection surface to help reduce the visibility of speakers, framing and other objects located behind the screen.

The backing should also be acoustically transparent so that the benefit of placing the speaker system behind the projection screen is maintained.

WOVEN VS. PERFORATED

Woven or Perforated Acoustically Transparent Screen?

Both woven and perforated projection materials can be used for speaker-behind-screen installations, but their structures are fundamentally different.

Feature Woven AT Perforated AT
Structure Interwoven fibers Micro-perforated surface
Acoustic Path Through openings in the weave Through perforated holes
Surface Appearance Fine woven texture Perforation pattern
Typical Application Home theater & custom cinema Cinema & large venues

APPLICATIONS

Where Are Woven Acoustically Transparent Screens Used?

Woven acoustically transparent projection screens are particularly suitable for installations where image size, speaker placement and architectural integration need to be considered together.

Typical applications include dedicated home theaters, private cinemas, screening rooms, demonstration rooms and custom large-format AV installations.

Projection and Sound in the Same Plane

SCREENPRO woven acoustically transparent projection materials are designed for fixed frame and custom projection screen applications where loudspeakers are installed behind the viewing surface.

Screen size, frame configuration, woven projection material and optional black acoustic backing can be selected according to the requirements of each AV installation.
